Caught up in the moment..

You know when you feel like you've finally got your life figured out and then slowly over time you realise that's not the case at all? Well, recently that's what's happened to me. I really wanted to share some really useful advice that I think would help someone out there too.

Lately I've just been feeling so frustrated with not knowing what I'm doing with my life or where my life is going. I've always felt like I've been surrounded by people who just know what they wanna do with their lives. How do you get to that place? Does something just click one day and you know what to do?

Before I get into it.. I just wanna say I think some people are genuinely lucky enough to know what they want to do in life, whereas some of us struggle but I'm here to tell you... that's totally okay. You don't have to have it all figured out just yet, I sure don't lol. I'm 23 now and there is still so much of life I'm yet to experience, so many lessons I'm already learning and I think the journey to self discovery is quite an amazing thing when you think about it.

Anyway, the reason behind the title of the post is because I had a conversation with my cousin not too long ago and he was giving me some advice on just life in general. The words "caught up in the moment" stood out to me so much.

Sometimes as humans we tend to act on our emotions without actually looking at the bigger picture. You ever get so frustrated with a situation that you either lash out or make a drastic decision without thinking of consequences? Well that's called being "caught up in the moment". It's easy to act out when you're in the moment, when really you may not necessarily make that same decision if you just think rationally.

I became so upset, annoyed, frustrated at the fact that I felt lost and didn't know which direction I was going in my life that I almost made a decision based on those exact emotions.

We sometimes forget that our current situation is just temporary, the key thing is to focus on what the ultimate goal is and figure out how you're gonna get there. Yes, things do tend to fall into place but only after you've put the work in! I'm speaking to myself here too, I can be extremely lazy and since getting into a full time job and living the 'adult life', I learnt that if you want something in life you've gotta go out there and get it.. it won't just come to you.

Put in the time, effort and dedication into your goals and if you don't have any goals.. set some! I've got back into writing in my journal and it's not just a journal to write how I'm feeling, it's to write my goals, how I'm going to achieve them and I always look back at what I've written so I can reflect and see what progress I've made.

It's difficult to work towards something if you don't know how you're going to get there. I think that's why some of us get so frustrated with life and what we're doing, we simply don't put in the time and effort into our goals and just really think about where we're going.

My advice is simply this, don't get caught up in the moments full of anger or frustration, work out a solution and take it from there. Oh.. and don't forget to talk to someone! Getting advice from friends or family is always the best but don't forget too many opinions can cloud your judgement. I tend to have 3 people maximum who I go to for specific advice.

Whatever situation you're going through in your life right now, remember.. it's only temporary and this is just another stepping stone to the ultimate goal.
