International Women's Day!

Today is such a special day for all women out there, it's International Women's Day! I personally still have so much more to experience as a woman such as giving birth, getting a career as a woman and so much more. It's certainly not easy out there in the world and the older I become the more I see just how much a lot needs to change for women but it's amazing seeing what so many women are doing right now to make that change but we all need to contribute to that to make more of an impact. I never really used to see the importance of feminism or gender equality, that's the honest truth. I was one of those people who paid no attention to those issues whatsoever and carried on about my business but it was around a year ago that I saw a video of Emma Watson at the United Nations doing a speech on feminism and that's when I really woke up. Gender equality is still such a major issue and I pray that one day things really change. I won't go off on too much on a rant about that but I just wanted to touch upon it briefly.

I think it's so important for women to empower one another. A lot of us want to be in competition with each other and constantly put each other down but for what? What's wrong with giving someone a compliment? Or encouraging and supporting someone to achieve something? I feel so strongly about this and it frustrates me when all that's plastered on someone's social media is hate. Ladies, let's stop this please. I get it, you don't have to like what everyone's doing but there's nothing wrong with little words of positivity.. you have no idea how this can make someones day. Also think about how this would make you feel if someone was to encourage you.

I've been inspired by so many women in my life, the number one being my mum as I mentioned in my mothers day post. I could go on talking about how much she inspires me but this time I wanted to focus on other women who inspire me.

Cicely Tyson, Iyanlya Vanzant, Viola Davis, Maya Angelou, Oprah Winfrey and Angelina Jolie.

All these amazing women inspire me in different ways, from Maya's poetry, Iyanla's wisdom, Angelina's humanitarianism, Oprah's positive influence, Viola's passion for acting and Cicely's words of empowerment. I tend to not look up to celebrities for any kind of reason, it has to be specific and improve me in a positive way and I can definitely say these women have done that for me.

There are also so many songs and books that empower women. Music is a great way to uplift you and books are also a great way to gain more knowledge.

Which woman inspires you?
