I have
been working for REED for 9 months now and recently got promoted to a
Recruitment Consultant. My journey with REED so far has been so exciting. After
studying my degree in Law, I thought I knew the path I was going to take until
I fell into the role of Recruitment Resourcer.
I say fell
in because I never once thought about getting into recruitment. I was going to
pursue Law just because that’s what I had studied and I couldn’t decide what
else to do.
Anyway, I’ll
be sharing a more detailed post on my year after university!
This Manor
House was just stunning! The building had so much character to it and it felt
like I had gone back in time. I really admire architecture so I was constantly
oohing and aahing at the sight of it. The photos do not do it justice!
I had a
mixture of emotions before I went away on this course. Excited yet nervous just
because I didn’t know what to expect and I had been told there would be role
play involved which had my anxiety going crazy!
I’m not
the most confident person so being in a new environment always makes me a
little anxious, however I’ve found that being in recruitment has made me to
want challenge myself more and more.
This
course was called ERS1, which stands for Essential Recruitment Skills and there
are 3 stages to this. I was on the first stage however I now have 2 more to
complete which I will attend throughout the year. What’s great about this
apprenticeship is that at the end of it, you gain a Level 3 NVQ Diploma in
Recruitment and a Level 3 Certificate in Principles of Recruitment!
This
course was filled with lots of learning points and activates for new
consultants in REED on the apprenticeship course. Did I mention that the Manor
I went to is actually REED’s Business School? Other Accountancy students also
attend this school and do courses. We’re actually the only recruitment company
in the UK with a business school.. how cool is that! The time and investment
REED has taken in having this business school is amazing.
Throughout
the 3 days I was there I met some lovely, genuine people. My team was
brilliant. Everyone got on so well and worked brilliantly as a team. It’s
amazing how interaction with other people can bring you closer to them and you
learn different things from each other. The first morning hardly any of us knew
one another but by the end of the day, we were all down at the pub enjoying a
glass of wine/beer and some games!
I can’t
help but mention our trainer who taught us throughout those 3 days. Isobel Morgan
was the best trainer I could’ve ever hoped for. Everything from her presence to
the support she provided us was great. It was nice having someone who didn’t
actually feel like a teacher but more like a friend advising you on the best
way to perform your role. After the first role play, I had to thank her
personally for having us do that task because it was something I was so nervous
about beforehand but managed to do well.
One of my
objectives on the first day was to build up my confidence and I can definitely
say Isobel helped me improve that.
Overall, I
have fallen in love with REED all over again. I knew the training was always
good but this course confirmed it even more. For a company to invest in its
employees like that is just incredible.
Not only are you provided with all this
training but you’re surrounded by people who genuinely want to see you succeed
and believe in your potential. For someone like me, that means the absolute
world!
Like I
said, I’m very happy with decision I made to not pursue Law because for the
first time ever, I am confident that this the career I want to stay in and I’m
excited to see where it’ll take me.
Thank you
to Isobel for being such a great trainer and to James and Alec Reed for
providing these opportunities to us.
Love Sham x
